Pre-prep department
Come and experience this lively and imaginative department in the lea of the Howardian Hills.
The Pre-Prep of Terrington Hall consists of four main areas – Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
Children about to enter the Nursery are encouraged to have taster days and in consultation with parents, a decision is made on how many days the child will attend. Reception children are expected to attend full time – ie five full days.
Nursery and Reception curriculum embraces the Early Learning Goals and the six areas of learning – Language, Numeracy, PHSE, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creative and Physical Development.
Parents are welcomed into the Pre-Prep at any time but especially when delivering children in the morning and at the end of the school day when they have the opportunity to chat with the teachers.
Year 1 and Year 2 study separate subjects which are planned in co-operation with the heads of each subject in the Prep Department and much of the curriculum is cross-curricular at this stage. Drama, PE, Music and Movement, Swimming and Computer Studies also form part of the curriculum. Individual music lessons are available with a vast range of instruments on offer.
Classes are small with each one having a teacher and a classroom assistant.
The day begins with an assembly at 8.45am. PHSE is covered in this time by the themed weekly topic eg looking after the earth, people who help us, five golden rules.
All children have school lunch seated on tables of eight and are served by a member of staff.
The day ends at 3.30pm and after school care is offered until 5.30pm (Wednesday 4.30pm).
Much use is made of the rural environment and the Pre-Prep children enjoy cultivating their garden plots and sampling the produce. Come and sample the produce in our farm shop and be advised by the children about healthy eating.
In short, to enjoy a wide range of experiences, arrange a visit to Terrington Hall Pre-Prep Department for your child.
