Terrington Hall Production of Roald Dahl's "Goldilocks"

May 21st saw the dramatic event of the decade with the rollout of Middle School's production of Goldilocks, by Roald Dahl. Long hours of rehearsal and choreography had been put into a seamless production filled with humour and excellent character acting - all the better given the tender age of the performers. Dahl's version of the story shows Goldilocks in her true colours, as a deceitful schemer, and the whole cast tackled this with verve and evident enjoyment. Iona Winn-Darley twinkled through her lead role, Edward Thompson, Abi Watkinson and Scarlett Latham were pivotal in their casting as the wronged Bear family, makeup and costumes rendering them only bearly recognisable. The stern prosecution team of Olivia Adams, Tara Jones, Ella Latham and Ellen Hobson doggedly brought their defendant to book, notwithstanding the sterling work of her defence counsels Charlie Buchanan and Tom Lister, and an implacable Sjon Barnes made the ungodly tremble in the imposing person of the Police Force. However it was very much a team effort and Emily Reynolds, Ellie Gath, Lily James, Gabe McGill, Max Twiddle, Charlie Higginbottom, Clemmie Preston, Alex Kobylka, Nicole Taylor, Albert Pollard, Sophie Wheeler, Andrew Downes, Erin Esler, Jack Clark, Olivia Thew, Lucie Worlledge, and Joseph Osborne acted their socks off, with huge aplomb and equally huge grins. As for Charlie Tannahill he has found his true vocation in life as the hawkeyed Forensics Specialist and I expect to see him in a guest slot in CSI as soon as his agents permit.

Mrs Glen and Mrs Titchmarsh did essential behind-the-scenes work and special thanks are due to Mrs Purcell for another of her musical masterworks. Mrs Whitfield as ever kept everything on course with swanlike majesty (serene on the surface, work like mad underneath) and it is believed that her understudy, Steven Spielberg, is doing rather well these days.

Your reviewer expects the production to move on to Drury Lane and Sadler's Wells in the near future and you are advised to catch the autographs and personal appearances of these stars now, before layers of Hollywood glam change them forever......
