Following on from an assembly on road safety, Miss I'Anson invited Mr Santon , the Area Road Safety Officer to come to talk to all the children in the Junior School. Nursery, Reception, Years 1 and 2 were first. Emily Rangeley was dressed in fluorescent and reflective materials so that she could be seen at night or during the day when she was crossing the road and Mr Santon talked to the children about the importance of being visible. He even showed us his bright pink socks. We all learned the Green Cross code and every time Mr Santon mentioned those "magic" words all the children had to jump up and say and act it out. It was great fun and a very good way to learn.
We were introduced to Sammy the squirrel and were told the sad story of how he had run out into the road and had his tail run over by a motorist. Thomas and Sophia were even allowed to stroke him.
Mr Santon then told a story about a Teddy who didn't wear his seat belt and the dangers of not wearing a seat belt at any time. Finally Mr Santon invited George to come and sit in the front passenger seat of the "car" whilst he drove. George was NOT impressed with his singing. The lesson here was the danger to children from airbags which Lottie Walsh explained excellently.
Mr Santon then entertained Years 3 and 4 with more fun antics with a very good message. The session ended with the children receiving little reflective strips and stickers to help them to keep safe.
Many thanks to Mr Santon and Mrs Twamley who will be visiting us again for the Bikeability course for the older children in the summer and to Miss I'Anson for organising the visit.
