Sanctions and rewards
The following is based on the recent Behaviour Working Group meeting, suggestions from staff and the staff inset day. The emphasis will be on rewarding good behaviour although sanctions will be applied wherever necessary.
Rewards
-
On a day to day basis staff will give out good marks in the form of stickers which the child will be responsible for putting on the house list.
-
At the end of each fortnight Form Tutors will choose one member of their form who has worked hard, behaved well, contributed positively to school life, etc and they will be presented with a certificate during the following Monday assembly. This will then be displayed for a fortnight on the good marks notice board and sent home to parents with a letter.
-
At the end of term several prizes will be raffled off. Every child will get one ticket for every five good marks they get.
Sanctions
-
There will be no bad marks.
-
There will be two set detentions a week for either poor behaviour or work-related matters. One will be 3.30pm – 4.00pm on a Wednesday supervised by the member of staff on duty and the other either a Monday or Thursday 5.00pm – 5.30pm – again supervised by the member of staff on duty. The pre-prep have offered to supervise detentions when there is a problem with staffing in the main school.
-
Staff giving a detention will need to complete a register, which will be kept in the staff room. In addition, for those detentions resulting from a behavioural matter a letter will be sent home to parents. (For work-related – see Director of Studies, Miss C Oakley).
Playground
-
There will be a two-week rota (organised by the Headmaster) for supervising the playground during morning break. This will give staff on duty a break and mean that staff will only supervise one break every other week. Lunchtime duty remains the responsibility of the member of staff on duty.
-
Members of year 8 have volunteered to be playground supervisors and will help police the play areas. They will be allowed to give out a small number of good marks to well behaved pupils on a trial basis.
-
The playground will be zoned and traditional games encouraged through PE lessons. Rugby will not be allowed in the square but will be allowed in the tennis court area after lunch.
-
The Geography Room will be allocated as a quiet room during breaks for those pupils who would prefer to read, play chess, etc.
-
There will be a ‘hands-off’ policy during breaks.
Form Periods
-
Tuesday break will be an informal form period when Circle Time can be encouraged.
