U11 A Football vs. Mowden Hall (01.02.12)

On a bitterly cold day, the under 11 boys travelled the long journey to Mowden Hall. The pitch was slightly smaller to what the boys are use to and it would require a slight adjustment to their style of play. From the first blast of the whistle Mowden exerted huge amounts of pressure and this continued for the majority of the game. Mowden were playing great football, having the majority of possession but it was the visitors that scored first with a break way goal. The lead didn't last long and Mowden scored within minutes to make the half time score 1-1.

It was made clear to the boys that if they were going to get anything out of the game they really needed to pull their socks up and get stuck in! The message seemed to have sunk in and at 3-1 up things were looking good. However, Mowden kept exerting the pressure and with a couple of minutes left scored their second of the game. Straight from the kick off Mowden won possession back and before we knew it were in our box. Max W, in a moment of madness, forgot that he was playing football and decided to grab hold of the ball. Realizing what he had done he dropped it as quick as he could but the whistle had already blown for a penalty. Up stepped the Mowden captain to take the penalty against our very own super stopper in goal George Raines. The rest is history! Not only did George save the penalty, he also followed it up with another fantastic save low down to his right. The whistle blew for full time, the boys mobbed George and we had won! I must say that the better side didn't win, but a sign of a good team is that they still win when they don't play well! Congratulation to the Mowden boys for playing some very attractive football and if they continue to play in that manner they will be very difficult to beat. Well done to all the boys for never giving up. The unbeaten run continues!
