As expected it was blowing a gale at the coast and freezing cold. After a long warm up we were ready to go, unfortunately Scarborough only had six players due to illness so we lent them Ella. The first few minutes saw the ball go from end to end with neither team dominating until out of the blue up pops Ella to slip the ball neatly through Scarlett's legs to put Scarborough ahead. Not quite what we wanted but it was neatly finished by Ella all the same. We hit back quickly with a driving run from Eliza followed by an excellent first time shot from Annabelle. Though we were ahead we couldn't relax as the opposition showed some great pace and ball control particularly by the right winger. Emma tackled well to keep her at bay with Angela tucking in and sweeping behind.
Eliza added to the lead shortly before the interval but Scarborough pulled one back with a great finish. In the second half we worked on stopping their attacks at source and a great performance by Lily kept the dangerous winger quiet. The two teams were evenly matched with our strength and determination balancing their knowledge of playing on astro. A further goal by Serena, a cracking shot from the top of the D, and we were just about home and dry. Scarlett was alert at all times though the defense protected her well so she wasn't actually called on too often, though the concentration had to be kept. Before the end there was time for Annabelle to score a second.
The final score doesn't really tell how close the match was, it was one of those games where chances were being created at both ends and until we pulled three ahead I was never fully confident, as they had some very accomplished players. Lily had a fantastic game, particularly second half, where she stuck to her task nullifying their threat and gaining possession of the ball and having won the ball rarely gave it away again.
