The U13's played their first 11 a side match of the season of which we have a couple more to follow. It is a good opportunity for the girls as those going on to senior school next year will be playing this most of the time, equally it gave all the fit girls in year 7 and 8 the chance to represent the school. The pitch was heavy going with the grass a little long which made moving the ball quite difficult and nobody could hit the ball with any certainty. It was also a freezing cold afternoon.
Credit to the girls though they stuck at their task, tackled constantly to win the ball and took a couple of chances that came their way. The first half was pretty close with opportunities at both ends, Scarlett only called upon once duly kept them out. Just before half time we a had a series of short corners the last of which result with Lily squeezing the ball in to the goal from a tight angle. In the second half we had much more of the play mainly due to the fact that we played the conditions better than they did. Serena reverted to pushing only and fed the ball beatifully into the gaps for both Annabelle and Eliza to run on to. She was supported by Tara and Angela in the midfield and these three kept the ball from our defense who had little to do in the second period.
Just before the end a good cross found Eliza in space in the D and she secured the win slipping the ball neatly into the corner. It was a great performance all round given the conditions and I was particularly pleased with the play of Alice,Ella, Ellen and Ellie who haven't had too many chances so far this season.
