On Wednesday 1st February, the U9 girls set off to Harrogate in the hopes of their first win for the season. After some last minute changes to the team, the girls donned their bibs in ideal positions and prepared themselves for the first quarter. From the first whistle the Terrington girls worked as a team; calling and signalling, allowing them to keep good possesion of the ball. Some fabulous intercepting from Rachel and Captain Christabel kept the ball away from the opponants net. Shooting duo Emily and Lizzie were certainly out in force scoring a super 4 goals in the first 7minutes; leaving the score at time 4-0.
The second quarter saw both teams eager to score. The Highfield girls worked very well in their new rotation with some wonderful defending. The defending was equally strong with Georgina and Emily keeping good guard over their goal. This left the score at half time untouched.
The Terrington gilrs were certainly in high spirits going in to the second half in the lead. The game became much more fluid with the girls using the court to their full advantage. Lizzie and Emily again worked fabulously together scoring a whopping 4 goals between them. 7 minutes left and 8-0 to Terrington!
With some very red faces from the energetic bodies the girls went in to final quater very happy ladies indeed. It was wonderful to see a strategic plan coming together that the girls had devised themselves. Rachel as centre saw that each time a centre pass took place, Emily was able to make herself free on the left. Lizzie then made her way down the the 'D' and with one simple pass the ball was in play. Fabulous accuracy from both shooters; giving Terrington another 5 goals. Leaving the score at full time 13-0.
I am absolutely thrilled with todays score. The girls worked wonderful as a team and were using strategies without coaching. I hope that this win will give the girls the long awaited confidence boost they need and help to put them on a winning streak!
