We arrived slightly late for this one and did not have time for our usual warm up session, starting after a two minute trot around the pitch; maybe we should adopt this approach more often, because the lads were superb right from the first whistle. The handling was terrific and the speed of the recycling was awesome. Max Twiddle bossed his forwards around most efectively and the backs were dominating when they had possession, which was often, as the forwards were rucking so well. Gaby kept the opposition guessing with dummies and miss moves, while George Black on the wing was proving a right handful, even before he scored. Jack Clark's tackling was pretty terrifying, Albert's support play was tireless and Malsis never really had the chance to settle into any pattern. Max Wainwright and Joe Browne in the centres also made good ground, although our final passes did not aways go to hand, but the man of the match (not for the first time) goes to Joe Osborne: he's not the biggest, heaviest or quickest of chaps, but my God he makes up for it with his sheer determination, tenacity and skill. The referee and the large crowd were hugely complimentary about the boys and it really was a most gratifying spectacle.
My thanks go to Malsis for their usual excellent hospitality, Mr Osborne and my mum for cheering us on and Mr Mulryne for his support and splendid company.
