1st XV vs. Wellow House
This was a slightly strange fixture as we were asked to play two 7 a-side matches. The boys have played no sevens since last year and so it took a little while to get used to the format. However, we moved the ball well throughout and by the second match were playing with style and creating gaps and opportunities to run.
We won the first match 15 - 10 and the second 20 - 15. Squad rotation was used in order to keep the matches competitive and to give everyone a good go. Although the tries came from the usual suspects (Saki, Cameron, Joe and Charlie B) it is some of the others who I believe deserve a special mention. Thomas Lister really got stuck in, as did Joseph Elliott they both made some excellent runs and tried their utmost in defence. Reece and Jordan also impressed, they have really improved as rugby players and did their jobs admirably yesterday. Our defence looked shaky at times and this is something I hope the boys will address before our meeting with Mowden on Saturday.
The unfortunate injury to Cameron will mean some reshuffling of positions over the next few weeks but we hope to have him back in time to face some of the bigger schools we have fixtures against later in the term.
