1st XV vs. St. Martin's Ampleforth
Last Saturday saw the 1st XV, not quite back to full fitness, but at least back in action. With Sake and Cameron missing it was always going to be a tough encounter but I was very proud of how the boys played and how they stuck to their task.
The end result, a loss by 50 points to 12, was in no way a fair reflection of the game. We out rucked our hosts throughout the match, played much of the game in their half and dominated the set pieces. The vast majority of their points came from counter attacks launched in their own 22 when we had been pushing for a score. It was unfortunate that they managed to do this, if we had not made the errors we did when pressurising them it could have been a very different story.
Our tries came from Jack Charters and Charlie Tannahill with a conversion from Charlie Buchanan. Jack Charters had a magnificent game. He really stepped up making excellent runs with the ball in hand as well as putting in a superb defensive performance.
I walked away proud of the whole team but obviously disappointed that things did not quite go out way.
