10.20am: all matches (Home and Away) are OFF this afternoon!
Malvern Tour is going ahead: weather much better in South West!
With a very chilly wind blowing across the netball court the U10 high five team started their match against The Minster School. Emily intercepted their centre pass and soon the ball was in the Terrington D in the safe hands of Christabel who popped in the first goal of the match. This was quickly followed by another 5 goals with very accurate shooting from Rachel ( brought in at the last minute!) and Christabel. The players all change positions and the next two shooters were Poppy and Emily T. I was impressed at how much progress Emily T has made in this short half term and she soon gained enough confidence to try a few shots. Poppy was quick to get the rebounds and the goals were coming thick and fast by this time giving Terrington a lead of 14-0 at half time.
After another change round for the third quarter it was Emily and Rachel who kept up the good work and managed to get through the much improved opposition's defence to score another 2 goals. In the final quarter, being mindful that the game was a little one -sided we swapped some players over to even up the teams. This really lifted the Minster's game and I am very proud of the way that Poppy and Emily B assisted their opposing team. The Terrington girls played some very good netball and were a great credit to their coach , Miss Shelley. They moved into spaces very well and are beginning to predict where the ball is travelling to. They show great promise for the future and it was my pleasure to umpire this match despite the cold!
Final score:won 16-1

Mrs Glen kindly invited me out of my netball retirement to umpire the U13B team this afternoon. I might not have been so eager to take up the task if I had realised that I would be spending the afternon outside in freezing temperatures! On the plus side the sun was shining, at least for the first match. It was great to see how much the girls had progressed since leaving the U11's. In the first match Terrington got off to a flying start with Clemmie and Ellie putting us ahead by 3 goals in the first quarter assisted by Lily J at Centre and Lily N at WA. By half time the opposition still had not managed to score despite some valiant efforts and when the whistle blew it was 4-0 ..
With Olivia coming in at WD she managed to sneak past St Martin's and gained two of their centre passes in succession. Ellie and Clemmie worked well together and had a lot of opportunities to shoot but with cold hands it was difficult to be wholly accurate. Ourdefence slipped and St Martin's got two goals in leaving the score at 7-2 at three quarter time.
All the girls had to do in this final quarter was to keep the defence up and with some great interceptions from Ellen and Erin the girls remained focussed and were very pleased with the final score of 8 -2.
After a warm up in the sports hall ,watching Giggleswick and St Martin's A's we braved the cold again for our match against Giggleswick. This was a very even match with goals being scored alternately in the first quarter . Ellie now had Abi to work with and by the end of the first quarter they had us just ahead at 3-2. T By half time the score remained the same. The temperature meant there was a lot of loose balls and some difficult footwork as the court became a little slippy. Abi and Ellie had a lot of chances to shoot but somehow the ball just didn't want to go in as it was passed several times over the net. Eventually with some help from Lily J we managed to increase the score. Terrington went into the final quarter ahead but with just 2 minutes to go the score was getting a little too close for comfort . Abi and Ellen pulled it back in the closing minute and the team were well deserving of their final 8-5 score.
Well done to all of the team. It was a pleasure to be back on the court . I was particularly impressed by new girls Hannah and Lily who showed great determination.

After a frosty start to the week it was a great to arrive at Queen Mary's in glorious autumn sunshine. After a quick warm up, the birthday girl, Frankie lost the toss and a very well matched, quick paced game commenced. Queen Mary's got off to an early start but we soon equalised with some great feeding into the D by Lily J. Lily B and Ellen defended tirelessly against some giant shooters and by half time the score was 2-3.
By now the sun was starting to go down and the court was becoming very slippery so the girls were having to be quite cautious , meaning that there were a lot of loose balls. Queen Mary's marked and intercepted very well and although we had some good opportunities to shoot ,the ball seemed to spin around the rim and fall away on several occasions. Olivia came on in the third quarter to give Lily J some recovery time and she managed to fight really well for the ball despite the towering opposition.
In the final quarter the girls played on with great determination and with a goal from Clemmie and then a superb one from Frankie we were at 4-6. Unfortunately time was not on our side and although Frankie managed a last minute open goal from a penalty shot we could not catch up in time. I was pleased to see how all of the girls have developed their skills with Mrs Glen and Mrs Martin since last season. This was a tough match and as always the girls were a pleasure to coach and umpire.
Many thanks to the stalwart parents for their support.
Final Score :L 5-7

With the expert driving of Ms Torlesse we negotiated the notorious gates of The Minster School and had our bus parked for us by our friend Mr Creber!
Anna won the toss and we got off to a very slick start with Georgina popping in the goals one after the other. After a short "rest" fronm netball I was delighted with the progress that these girls had made since they were U10's, especially Lucy and Emma who made great contributions in the middle of the court to enable Amelia to zip the ball down to the shooters.
In the second quarter, The Minster School had the measure of us and the Terrington girls let their guard down and the score in this quarter was one each. By half time we were still ahead but not by enough to be complacent. Coco and Amy were "encouraged" to use their height and to start jumping for the ball and this paid off but the opposition had a superb goal defence who it was increasingly difficult to get past and with a lot of loose ball this made for some rather sloppy play.
With 7 minutes to go the score was 8-4 to Terrington but suddenly, after some "wise" words the girls woke up and played a cracking last quarter with Georgina and Anna scoring again and again. It was a pleasure to take the girls today and they should be very pleased with this win. I am sure that Miss Shelley will be equally pleased !
Many thanks to Helen Torlesse for accompanying us and driving the bus and to the parents for their support. It was great to see one of my former players, Rosie Cordingley coming to cheer her cousin on !
Final score : won 15-5

After watching the U11's play, it was the under 9's turn to take to the court. Olivia was the captain today and she won the centre pass. Lottie C soon got the ball down to Olympia and Lottie G and Olympia got two goals in quick succession giving Terrington an early lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was quite uneventful with the ball going uop and down the court but Lottie C and Ellie M could not get it in. By now the rain was starting to fall and the court was quite slippy as was displayed by a spectacular slide by Lottie Green . In the third quarter Rachel played strongly as centre and managed to slip the ball down to Olivia in the D, who scored a superb goal . with some strong play from The Minster school they broke through our defence to gain their only goal of the match.
With increased confidence the girls went into the final quarter determined to maintain their lead and with some accurate shooting from Claudia and Rachel, the match ended with a victory. Well done to all the girls who took part. They were a credit to Miss I'Anson .
Final score W 5-1

Following a very sucessful boarders' Halloween party, the younger members of the school community had their own little celebration of the end of the farming year and the beginning of the dark nights ( Halloween). The morning was spent with some pumpkin carving in Year 1 , the sensory trays in Reception were very inviting for little fingers, and in Year 2 the children did some factual writing about the festival and cast a few spells!
After lunch the fun began. First came the excitement of dressing up ( and that was just the staff). Mrs Langley looked particularly scary. We joined together in the hall for some fun games. Pumkin bumps, Zombie statues and Gloop Swamp River which were enjoyed by all. Each class had an activity and the children had fee choice to visit any of these. Miss Savage enticed the children with marshmallow strings, Mrs Langley drowned a few children whilst apple bobbing, Miss I'anson invited the children to feel the gloop, Mrs Tirchmarsh did a great impression of Winnie the Witch with her storytelling and Year 2 hosted black and orange biscuit decorating. The afternoon was rounded off with a story read by Witchy Whitfield. We all had a great time. Many thanks to parents who once again came up with some terrific costumes.

On a beautiful summer day , Years 2, 3 and 4 set out on our second visit of the gardening year to Stockbridge. Mrs Cole was leading the way with Year 4 and unfortunately missed the turning off the A64. However all was well and we arrived in good time to be greeted by Catherine, the MD's wife. She was suprised to see so many Terrington children as I explained we had grown in numbers in The Junior School and we could not leave anyone out. It was a much larger group but the children were impeccably behaved so everyone was happy.
After a little briefing we went out into the hot ,dusty field to plant cabbages that we had sown from seeds earlier in the year, courgettes, sweetcorn and beetroot. We harvested our lettuces which had been protected by fleece during all the cold wet weather and then headed back into the shade for a well earned drink.
We spent as little time as possible in the greenhouses collecting our Stock, parsley, tomato and marigold plants and then had a brief look at the tomato and peppers growing but it was very warm under the glass.
After an uneventful journey back to Terrington , the children took a sample of their produce home and on Friday Mrs Cole planted the remainder of the plants in our garden plot with Year 2.
Many thanks to the staff at Stockbridge and Mrs Hawker, Mrs Cole, Miss Shelley and Mrs Watson for making it a really good gardening afternoon.
