about us

Welcome to Terrington Hall School

'In these times of great uncertainty, one thing of which we are all sure is that we continue to want the very best for our children’s education. At Terrington Hall we have adapted quickly to ensure that our children continue to make progress through this period of lockdown and we now have systems to ensure that we can move seamlessly to online teaching and learning from our normal ‘physical’ school.

So, whatever the future holds, be it further national or localised lockdowns as a result of coronavirus or should another national or international crisis hit, our pupils will always receive excellent teaching with their academic progress ensured.

During this unprecedented period, we will be able to accept new registrations and offer a place for September 2020 entry, despite the current restrictions. For further information, please contact: admissions@terringtonhall.com

We are a thriving prep school based to the north of York in the beautiful Howardian Hills. Terrington Hall provides a safe, nurturing learning environment for children from 3 to 13 years old. We pride ourselves on our strong sense of community as well as our welcoming and friendly atmosphere.

Our small class sizes ensure that every child is given a high level of care and attention, which allows the specialist teaching staff to identify and develop each child’s talents.

Our parents call us ‘a fun, happy school which focuses on the individual child. Children thrive at Terrington Hall.’.

Focusing on our pupils as individuals allows us to aid you in choosing the right secondary school for the next stage of their educational journey.

Our ability to nurture our pupils' talents in academics, sports, music, art and drama is apparent in our consistent success of senior school scholorships:

Almost 50% of our leavers over the last 5 years have gained scholarships to leading independent schools.

The ISI (Independent School Inspectorate) ‘the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent’.

Our vibrant and energetic performing arts department encourages and celebrates our pupil’s music and drama capabilities, with many performance opportunities throughout the school year including recitals, concerts and shows.

The Sports department benefits from our stunning rural surroundings, as our children get to play on our astro, grass pitches and tennis court as well as in our multi-purpose sports hall and swimming pool.

We offer flexi-boarding in our ‘home from home’ boarding house and an extensive school bus service, which is available from York and surrounding areas.

Due to current restrictions in place, we are very sadly, unable to offer personal tours or visits around the school.

However, we would be delighted to arrange a phone call or video call with our current headmaster Steve Mulryne or our future Headmaster, Simon Kibler, who starts in September 2020.

Once the restrictions are lifted, we will of course contact all prospective parents to arrange for a visit and personal tour to take place.
