Pupils at Terrington Hall are afforded many opportunities to engage in a wide range of activities. These may be delivered by staff during the school day or in the early evening after tea. In addition, there is an extra-curricular programme which pupils can sign up to and which is delivered by external teachers and coaches. For boarders staying the weekend, there is always a specially planned Sunday outing or trip on offer.

Activities within the school day

On days when afternoon games is not timetabled, Terrington Hall offers a number of activities to its Prep-School pupils (Years 3-8) between the end of formal school lessons at 3.15pm and before prep or the close of the school day.

These might include Junior or Senior Choir, Band, play or musical practice, attending the gifted and talented programme, working on Terrington’s productive garden or going to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) or Maths club. Pre-Prep children, meanwhile, are actively encouraged to take up one of the lunchtime activities on offer by Pre-Prep staff such as Lego/Construction, sewing, singing, sports and arts and crafts.

Extra-curricular activities

Children from Year 1 to Year 8 have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities offered by external specialist teachers and coaches, for which a charge is made.

Currently, we offer: Drama Club, Judo/Karate, Riding, Swimming, Tennis (Summer term) and Tri Golf (Years 1-4).

In addition, private music tuition is offered in all mainstream instruments and individual speech and drama lessons are also available. These are timetabled during the school day. Evening and Boarding activities.

Every evening after tea the member of staff on duty runs an activity for the boarders (full-time, flexi or occasional) and any child who would simply like to stay for the activity.

Popular evening activities include: t-shirt printing, mosaics, board games, quiz nights, climbing wall sessions, dance club, badminton, cricket nets, den-building, fun swim, outdoor games, science club, art and craft activities, Mario Kart challenge, water polo, pamper nights, rounders, uni-hoc and rugby. In addition, the boarding staff organise special boarding nights for individual year groups, regular movie nights and annual events such as the Hallowe’en party, Easter Egg hunt, chocolate workshop and hugely popular great campout which takes place over a summer’s weekend with 75-80 pupils in attendance.

At the weekend the boarders have the opportunity to go out with the member of staff on duty for a family-style outing. These could include going out for Sunday lunch, visiting York and local museums and attractions, summer trips to the beach and Dalby Forest, bowling, golf and country walks.
