Old Terringtonian plays for U16 Scotland

'Breese is doing Terrington proud' (Gazette & Herald, 31 May 2017)

Old Terringtonian George Breese who left for Glenalmond College in 2014 won selection to one of the two U16 Scotland rugby squads which competed at last month’s 2017 Colwyn Bay Rugby Festival in Wales.

Selected for Scotland Blues, George, who plays at No 3 (Tight Head Prop,) was in the starting line up for both of their matches, playing the first 55 minutes of each before the entire front row was replaced.

In the first match, Scotland Blues lost out to the Dragons by the slimmest of margins when a last minute try by the Dragons saw them win 15-14.

In the second match against RGC, Scotland were by far the stronger side running out an emphatic 45-5 victory.

According to dad Charlie Breese: ‘George scrummaged well and there were many scrums where the ball was won against the head whilst the scrum drove forward. A few short runs in open play in the middle of the line, but sadly no tries. As part of their recovery programme, the team had to swim in the sea which was quite refreshing in April!’

George had the biggest group of supporters on the sidelines with over 40 people watching the two matches.

The squad of 50 players will now be reduced to 20-25 players to attend a two-week training camp this July in Valladolid, Spain.

Meanwhile, George hopes to progress to the U17 and U18 squads and will continue his training with Perth and with the Caledonian branch of the SRU as he looks to progress his career in rugby.
