Terrington Hall School is a welcoming and supportive independent school located in North Yorkshire, committed to providing an excellent education and encouraging all pupils to develop their talents. We are currently seeking a Lent Term Netball Coach to join our team.

Job Purpose: To plan and deliver high-quality, engaging netball coaching sessions for pupils aged 7 to 13 of varying abilities, fostering a love of the sport while developing technical skills, teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship. The role includes selecting teams, leading school fixtures and creating an environment in which pupils are encouraged to demonstrate the school’s values of Kindness, Confidence, Courage and Growth, both in training and in competition.

Hours of work:

Part time, Lent term 2027 only
Monday 14:00 – 16:00
Thursday 13:30 – 17:30
Friday 13:30 – 17:30
(10 hours per week)

Desirable support for Saturday fixtures (4 hours for 6 Saturdays)

Key Responsibility /Accountability:

• Plan and deliver fun, inclusive and well-structured netball coaching sessions for pupils aged 7 to 13.

• Adapt coaching sessions to meet the varying abilities and needs of pupils, ensuring both progress and enjoyment.

• Select teams and prepare pupils for school fixtures, tournaments and other sporting events, leading fixtures where required.

• Promote teamwork, resilience, confidence and a positive sporting attitude in line with the School’s values.

• Lead, organise and deploy games staff effectively for each timetabled session, ensuring that session plans, objectives and expectations are communicated clearly to staff in advance of every session.

• Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all pupils during coaching sessions, maintaining a positive, safe and disciplined learning environment.

• Set up, inspect and safely store equipment before and after each session.

• Maintain high standards of professional conduct and act as a positive role model, demonstrating the School’s values and ethos.

• Monitor pupils’ progress and maintain appropriate coaching records.

• Prepare concise end-of-term reports on pupils’ progress and achievement.

• Liaise effectively with teaching staff, parents (where appropriate) and the Head of Sport regarding pupils’ progress, fixtures and any welfare concerns.

• Attend fixtures, tournaments, training sessions and relevant school events as required.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play. To fulfil this responsibility effectively, all practitioners should make sure their approach is child related. This means that they should consider, always, what is in the best interests of the child.  You must comply with Terrington Hall School’s Protection and Safeguarding Policy and Procedures and the requirement to report any concerns relating to the safety or welfare of children.

Person Specification
The successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate the following:

Essential Skills:

• A recognised England Netball coaching qualification (Level 2 or working towards, or the equivalent current coaching award).

• Previous experience coaching netball, ideally with children aged 7 to 13.

• The ability to plan and deliver engaging, inclusive coaching sessions for pupils of varying ages and abilities.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young people.

• A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

• An understanding of fair play, teamwork and positive sporting behaviours.

• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory pre-employment checks.
  Desirable Skills:

• Current Emergency First Aid at Work (or Paediatric First Aid) qualification.

• Current safeguarding training.

• Experience coaching within a school or independent school environment.

• Experience organising and leading school fixtures and tournaments.

• An understanding of the role of sport within a prep school and the ability to contribute to the wider co-curricular programme.

• Flexibility to coach before and/or after school and attend fixtures, tournaments and occasional weekend sporting events as required.

Safeguarding and welfare of children 

The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible, or with whom they come into contact with, will be to adhere to and always ensure compliance with the Schools’ Child Protection Policy Statement. If while carrying out the duties of the post the role holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School, they must report any concerns to the School’s DSL or the Headteacher.
