Many congratulations to Year 8 pupil Alice Cooke who came third in the Charles Owen pony racing finals at York Racecourse on Sunday 8 September, on her pony Over To Kerry.

She is pictured during the race and on the podium with jockey Franny Norton.

The Charles Owen pony racing finals are the culmination of a highly successful season for Alice in which she won a pony club open race at Haydock, two point-to-point pony races - at Edgecote and Tabley - and came in second locally at the Middleton point- to-point at Sheriff Hutton. She qualified for the Charles Owen pony racing finals having come second at Market Rasen races in July.

Alice has been riding since the age of 5 and is a member of Middleton Pony Club.

In the Summer, Alice started riding out on the race horses at Mark Walford’s stables at Cornborough Manor near Sheriff Hutton. She says: ‘It was an amazing experience, I’ve wanted to ride out on Mark’s horses for a long time. One day I’d love to have a career as a jockey.’

Well done Alice, maybe this could be the start of your racing career!
