It is with great pleasure that we announce that Year 8 pupils Theresa Rietveld and Alice Cooke have won scholarships to their senior schools.

Theresa has been awarded a double scholarship to Queen Margaret’s School for both Art and Sport, with swimming and netball featuring in her sport scholarship. Theresa, who was last year a finalist in Shrewsbury School’s Prep School Art and Design competition, presented an art portfolio to Queen Margaret’s and spent a morning drawing portraits and still lifes as part of the scholarship process before being put through her paces in the pool and on the netball court.

Head of Art Phil Magson said: ‘Theresa is a careful observer and readily finds the right line when drawing. Her growing ability in use of colour and a variety of media has been recognised by her senior school, which will be welcoming an accomplished young artist who is increasingly ambitious and imaginative.’

Alice has been awarded a sports scholarship by The Mount School on the strength of her swimming and netball. As well as being a talented sportswoman, Alice is also a keen equestrian. Last term she came third in the Charles Owen pony racing finals at York Racecourse on her pony Over To Kerry.

Head of girls games Kelly Roberts said: ‘This is a huge achievement for both girls and I am absolutely delighted for them. They have both displayed an outstanding attitude and commitment to the girls games department and will both make excellent assets to their respective schools. Tessa has excelled at netball and swimming, whilst Alice has gone from strength to strength with both her horse riding and netball.’
