Years 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed an action-packed morning with an Eggstravaganza event organised by the Lower Prep staff
Divided into six mix-aged groups, the children rotated around a carousel of Easter-themed activities.
Just in case the children thought they would be getting an easy ride, Miss Knights had devised a devilish general-knowledge treasure-hunt quiz with plenty of riddles to work the brain cells first thing in the morning. The children just loved it, racing around the school grounds to find the clues and working together in their teams to solve the puzzles.
An Easter-themed times-table maths challenge awaited the children in Mr Sigsworth’s class whilst Mrs Cross and Miss Diggory had prepared an intricate art and design task resulting in an array of simply stunning 3D Easter cards.
An exploration of the Easter story with Mrs Hazorika-Stephany reached far beyond a re-telling of the traditional Christian story to encompass the pagan roots of the festival. It was a revelation for the children to hear of Ostara (or Eostre or Eastre) the Anglo-Saxon goddess of Spring.
Finally, with Vivaldi’s Four Seasons playing in the background, Mrs Bazire-Smith’s egg-decorating activity was an oasis of calm before the traditional uproarious egg-rolling competition on the sports pitches. This year’s finalists were Finn (Year 3), Claudia (Year 4) and Tilly (Year 5), with Tilly declared the winner.
