The power of kindness

Kindness is at the heart of everything at Terrington Hall. One of the most practical ways we demonstrate this core value is by working together to support charities. This allows every child to experience the joy and satisfaction of helping others.

Every academic year the school selects a charity to support. Our community then comes together for a range of fundraising activities – everything from bucket collections to donations of raffle prizes.

The generosity and commitment of our parents’ group, the Friends of Terrington Hall, plays a significant role in our charity fundraising too. Their involvement ensures that the causes we support are close to everyone’s hearts. The Friends also support many of our development projects at school.

Support for great causes

Over the years, our school community has raised an incredible amount of money for a range of wonderful causes, both local and nationwide. In 2022-23 we raised money for our charity of the year, Candlelighters, as well as for Lollipop and Jeans for Genes. We also support Children in Need, Red Nose Day and other great charities.

Children take the lead

Children also suggest, plan and carry out fundraising for causes close to their heart. As part of the TALL Programme, Year 8 pupils suggest and carry through a range of fundraising activities, from sponsored walks to bake sales.

Charity of the Year 2023-24

Our charity of the Year for 2023-4 is Dove House Hospice. As the only hospice of its kind in Hull and East Yorkshire, Dove House cares for thousands of adults each year who are living with a terminal illness. Its staff focus on each patient’s quality of life and aim to enrich the positives such as their relationships with family and friends.

It costs more than £9 million each year to ensure that the hospice remains open, accessible and free to those that need its services.

Through charitable giving, pupils acquire a deeper understanding of those less fortunate than themselves.
