At Terrington Hall we are passionate about learning languages. With Spanish in particular being one of the most widely-spoken languages in the world, it is a vital area of our curriculum and one that we value highly.
Year 3 to Year 5 have weekly Spanish lessons taught by a subject specialist. In the lower years, the lessons are based on games, activities, songs and roleplay. Whether building on their understanding from Spanish lessons in Pre-Prep or new to the school with little prior experience, the children are quickly inspired and enthused by the language.
As the children progress through Lower Prep, the dynamic course is designed to engage and stimulate them as they develop the tools and discipline to master more complex language.
We know that teaching languages to young children improves their literacy levels, builds their self-confidence and enables them to become more confident and creative in their thinking across all subjects. Learning languages also broadens their cultural horizons and prepares them for being able to live and work within the increasingly international world of the 21st century.
“One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way.” (Frank Smith)
