A record-breaking Prep School Sports Day
Competition and fun were the order of the day when Prep School children gathered for our hugely-anticipated Sports Day – an event which saw several School records broken.
Years 3 to 8 had spent weeks practising their athletics skills and were more than ready to do their best for their House, whether it be Castle, Moor or Forest. Everyone gathered under their House’s banner and marched purposefully to the field in a celebratory opening ceremony.
There was a tremendous turn-out from families who, in time-honoured tradition, gathered along the bank with picnic fare to cheer everyone on.
Children competed against others of similar ability in the ball throw, high jump, long jump, javelin, shot putt and discuss field events. Under 11 pupils Iris and William A distinguished themselves by breaking the school records in ball throw and javelin respectively.
On the track, they joined various races between 75m sprint and a 1500m run which equated to 7.5 laps of the running track. The ever-popular relays were also keenly-fought. The 300m sprint saw new School records set by Emily W (U9) and Rose (U11), and new 600m school records were set by Sophie P (U9) and Jessica F (U11).
Sports Day wouldn’t be the same without the parents’ egg and spoon race. It featured hilarious levels of incompetency – and some surprising skill – from everyone who took part.
The prestigious titles of Victor Ludorum and Victrix Ludorum were awarded to Olivia and Hugo (U13), Jessica F and Albert (U11) and Sophie P and Harry A (U9).
The awards are based on the English Schools’ Athletic Association standards and are calculated from each athlete’s track performances and field event performances.
The overall Sports Day winner was Moor House, with an impressive 400 points. Congratulations to Moor and to everyone who had the Confidence, Courage – and Kindness – to compete for their House and celebrate our great tradition of camaraderie in sport.
Our Sport is athlete-centred, development-driven and competition-supported!
