Two scholarships for Year 8 pupil Arthur

Congratulations to Arthur, who has been awarded two prestigious scholarships to Ampleforth College: the Basil Hume Academic and Sports Scholarship awards.

Basil Hume Scholars are high achievers who show interest and commitment to their specialisms beyond the curriculum. They are mentored at Ampleforth to help give them further stretch.

Arthur is our Head of School (Forest House) and has proved an excellent motivational leader at House events. His leadership skills are also in evidence on the sports field, where he is a key member of our school teams. He represented Yorkshire at U12 cricket last year and this year has already been selected for the North Yorkshire U13 squad. His hard work and aptitude in all academic subjects have also impressed.

Headmaster Simon Kibler said: “We’re very proud of Arthur both inside and out of the classroom and I’m delighted that his talents and work ethic have been recognised by these two Basil Hume Scholarships. I am confident he will be a real asset to Ampleforth College, in the same way he has been with us.”

Gone is the boy who won’t communicate or look you in the eye while hiding under his hoodie. Back is the young man who holds his head high, is thoughtful of others, caring, considerate, communicative and happy.
