Cross Country Championships a runaway success

We welcomed 400 runners from schools across the region at our annual celebration of cross country running: The Terrington Hall Cross Country Championships.

Children from 17 schools – in Year 4 and above – competed in the Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 Races. The courses ranged from 2.2km to 4km in length, around the beautiful surrounding countryside surrounding our school.

There was a festival atmosphere as children from all the different schools warmed up together before taking off across the countryside. They all supported each other, stopping to encourage runners from different schools as well as their own along the way.

The weather was mostly sunny but the conditions still muddy underfoot after several days of rain in the run-up to the event. Several trainers were lost – but it’s a testament to the spirit and determination of the competitors that it didn’t stop them finishing the race.

Congratulations to everyone involved, including the Terrington Hall staff who helped to make the event a success by preparing and marshalling the route, providing much-needed refreshments and ensuring the event ran as smoothly as it did.

The real stars were the competitors themselves, from Terrington Hall as well as from Aysgarth School; Ampleforth College; Barnard Castle School; Belmont Grosvenor School and Brackenfield School, Harrogate; Cundall Manor; Giggleswick School; Pocklington School; Scarborough College; St Peter’s School York; Tranby in Hull and Westville House School, Ilkley.

We are so lucky with the sports facilities and equipment that we have at Terrington Hall, such as the astroturf,  swimming pool, sports fields and cricket nets.
