Post-Common Entrance exam fun makes memories for life

Year 8’s hard work preparing for their Common Entrance exams was rewarded during the last weeks of term with a programme of activities to celebrate all they have achieved.

In keeping with our focus on the joys and rewards of the Great Outdoors, one of their first post-exam trips was to the Yorkshire Dales. Year 8 blew way the cobwebs by climbing Whernside, the highest point in the county. Well done to all for showing great teamwork and encouraging each other throughout.

There was no shortage of watery thrills and spills on Year 8’s day trip to the North Yorkshire Water Park, when they were blessed with warm, sunny weather. An unusually quiet day meant they had the run of all the obstacle courses, too.

Back in Terrington, the Year 8 pupils also made a healthy contribution to our charity of the year by staging a charity car wash. Staff and parents were delighted to pay for their labour and donate to Myeloma UK, a charity which supports people living with the blood cancer and funds research into treatments.

Year 8 also worked together to plan, rehearse and perform their rite of passage production, The Leavers’ Play. They chose a modern, abridged version of Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which they performed on the front lawn on a beautiful summer’s evening.

Their audience of family and staff members were hugely impressed with their pitch-perfect delivery, with some great comic timing and several stand-out performances.

The evening concluded with a pupils v parents cricket match on the back fields. Lots of laughter and shrieks of triumph as family members clocked up runs or caught each other out.

Drinks and a fantastic feast laid on by our catering team helped fuel a relaxed and convivial evening which we hope our now-Old Terringtonians will always remember.

Memories were also made at a moving Leavers’ Service on the penultimate day of term. Year 8 and their families gathered at Terrington Church for a moving celebration of their time at Terrington Hall.

As tradition dictates, younger pupils, teachers and the Year 8 parents lined up to create an honorary arch for the Year 8 leavers to pass through as they exited the church.

The arch symbolises our lasting sense of community and the new beginnings ahead as our Year 8 pupils move onto their senior schools. We wish them the best of luck and hope they keep in touch!
