Record-breaking Prep School Sports Day
A high-energy, fun and sun-filled Sports Day saw several record-breaking performances by children in Years 3 – 8.
Although competitive, our Sports Day is also inclusive. Every child has the chance to compete against others of similar ability in track and field events, and we celebrate all levels of achievement.
This year, as ever, everyone was determined to do their best to represent their house: Castle (red tee shirts), Field (green tee shirts) and Moor (blue tee shirts).
Parents watched from the grassy banks amid a carnival atmosphere which left many people hoarse after shouting non-stop encouragement to each other.
The children competed in the long jump, shot putt, javelin, ball throw, as well as relays, 800m and 500m races, and sprints in 50m and 75m. Not to be outdone, the parents also competed in a 200m race.
Children were thrilled to step onto the podiums introduced this year, and be congratulated by Headmaster Huw Thomas. They then waved to their watching families, beaming from ear to ear.
In the track events, the 300 metre Under 9 record was broken in both the boys’ and girls’ race, by Lily and Hamish, representing Forest and Castle respectively.
Iris (Castle) was particularly delighted to set a new 300m under 11 record, breaking a previous best time set last year by her older sister, Rose.
The field event Under 11 ball throw also saw a decisive new record, after Emilia threw a very impressive distance for Castle House.
The Victor and Victrix Ludorum are awarded every year to the most successful overall performers at Under 9, Under 11 and Under 13 level, according to standards set by the English Schools Athletics Association. This year’s winners were:
- U13: Olivia and George
- U11: Iris and Rory
- U9: Lily and Harry
The winning House for Sports Day 2026 was Moor. Congratulations to them and to every child who took part.
Many thanks to parents’ group The Friends of Terrington Hall, who provided liquid refreshments and to our Catering team for providing snacks and drinks to the children and their families.
Thank you so much for all your support and guidance throughout this year. You have been brilliant.
