Service of Remembrance

Our community honoured the courage, sacrifice, and service of all those who have fought and are fighting for peace and freedom, in a moving Service of Remembrance.

Children and staff from Terrington Hall and Terrington Primary School, their families and Terrington villagers congregated in All Saints Church for hymns, readings and prayers of reflection.

They were piped in by the Ampleforth Highlanders Pipe Band, whose rousing sound reverberated through the church and set the tone for the solemn and yet uplifting service.

Children from the choir led the singing, our brass ensemble performed confidently, and Miss Wilson and Mr Woodrow played the Last Post and Reveille.

The Heads of School, Beatrice and Olivia, led the wreath-laying before Year 7 pupil Monty gave a beautiful rendition of John McCrea’s poem In Flanders Fields.

Heads of Houses Isabel, William and Theo led the prayers of intercession.

Many thanks to Rev’d Douglas Robertson, Rector of the Howardian Benefice, who led the service supported by Rev Stubbs, a teacher at Terrington Hall.

After a rousing rendition of The National Anthem, pupils filed out of church and continued the time-honoured School tradition of placing their poppies in arrangements as a lasting tribute to the fallen. We will remember them.
