Sharing the joy of Harvest Festival

Children across the school celebrated Harvest Festival with church services and by talking about the importance and benefits of sharing with one another.

We welcomed special guest Bernie Brown from the Westway Open Arms charity in Scarborough, which provides food banks, lunch and garden clubs for local people.

Miss Brown told the Prep School church assembly how its garden club members had taken huge pride in growing and the eating vegetables from seed. She said they found equal joy in sharing the food with each other, an example which is true of communities across the world.

Ordinand and TPR teacher Claire Stubbs was helped by Year 8 pupils as she illustrated her assembly talk about the significance of the word HARVEST by creating words formed from those letters, such as STARVE, EAT and SHARE.

Mrs Stubbs and Miss Brown also spoke to Pre-Prep children and joined in harvest songs – before Year 7 pupils helped Mrs Brown load up her car with generous food donations from the families of children across the school.

Miss Brown said: “Thank you so much for your amazing, generous donation of items for the food bank; your help is much appreciated. Thanks to your support we can continue to offer help and provide for local people in various ways.”
