We will remember them

The school community gathered for a moving Service of Remembrance to remember and honour all those affected by fighting and war.

Pupils and staff were joined by children from Terrington School and by family members who came to pay their respects to the fallen.

Everyone was piped in by the Ampleforth Highlanders Pipe Band, from Ampleforth College, and our talented musicians also made important contributions to our service.

Rosa, Annabelle and Head of Performing Arts Nicola Dance performed a wonderful ensemble rendition of ‘Evening Prayer’ from Hansel and Gretel, and Gus, Henry and Aidan played a note-perfect ‘Last Post’ and ‘Reveille’ with brass teacher Mr Connor McLean.

Readings and prayers from Year 8 pupils, staff and a service parent contributed to the solemnity of the occasion. The minute’s silence was observed impeccably by all the children, some of whom are as young as three.

There followed a wreath-laying ceremony and – in a long-observed Terrington Hall tradition – all pupils added their poppies to a lasting display of Remembrance.

When our daughter comes home from school it’s like a breath of fresh air listening to her talk about her day at school. The enthusiasm, passion and interest in learning she now has is fantastic to see.
