On Tuesday 1st May, every child in Year 3 and Year 4 attended a multi-sport event at Gateways School in Harewood. The children were exceptionally excited to be playing in mixed teams made up of boys and girls from both year groups.

The afternoon started with two teams heading down to the athletics section and two teams playing rounds of ‘tee-ball’. Half an hour was spent in each section before a big swap took place giving everybody the opportunity to try every activity.

Tee-ball is a variation on rounders as it is a game used as a precursor to baseball or softball in the United States. Each child had the opportunity to bat using a soft bat and a tennis ball. Contact was made with the ball which made for exciting and fast games. There were some awesome hits from Claudia, Freddie, Tilly, Angus and Mikey. Our fielding was definitely our stronger area with some fantastic catches from multiple children including Olivia and Mollie.

The children’s effort in the athletics section was fantastic with some powerful throwing in the discus and fast feet in the relay event.

Particularly notable performances came from Albert and Emily R in the javelin. Emily threw a top distance of 11.2 metres! In the long jump, Henry, Rosie and Sam all jumped over 2.9 metres; a commendable distance for Under 9s!

Overall, everybody enjoyed a great afternoon of sport. A big thank you to all of the Terrington parents who came to support; it was fantastic to have you there!
