The emphasis of Terrington’s boarding is on providing a friendly, family-style environment where pupils can relax and enjoy each other’s company whilst engaging in a rich programme of evening activities.
We are completely flexible to the days, amount and regularity to which a pupil boards. For some pupils, it is a way for them to spend regular time with their friends outside the classroom; for others it’s a once-in-a-while opportunity to sample boarding life when they have signed up for a particular evening activity. For many, and especially our older pupils in Years 6-8, it provides an excellent preparation for those who may be considering moving on to a senior boarding school at 13.
The cosy, well-appointed accommodation is located in the main house. Children sleep in dormitories with children from their year group and/or the year group above/below (there are separate dormitories and washrooms for boys and girls). Under the care of a resident Head of Boarding, Assistant Housemaster and a team of gap-year pupils, there are clear boundaries for acceptable behaviour and the staff encourage an atmosphere of trust, friendship and mutual respect within the boarding house which enables everyone to relax, have fun and get sufficient rest for the school day ahead.
There is a planned programme of activities every weekday evening from 6.30-7.30pm. This is published termly in advance and is open to day pupils as well as boarders. Popular evening activities include: t-shirt printing, baking, quiz nights, climbing wall sessions, gymnastics, badminton, cricket nets, dodge ball, construction challenges, fun swim, mosaics, outdoor games, science club, art and craft activities, water polo, pamper nights, rounders, uni-hoc and touch rugby.
In addition, there are regular special boarding nights such as the Hallowe’en party, Christmas Chocolate Workshop, treasure hunts, weekend camp out, year group boarding nights, Blockbuster Movie nights and the summer waterfight.
To book into the boarding house, please email Head of Boarding Miss Claire Wainwright: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Whilst bookings can be taken at short notice, and even on the day, it is advisable to give as much notice as possible as the boarding house is regularly fully booked and has to operate a waiting list on these occasions.
