Amazing Alps adventure for Year 7 children

The activity holiday to The Alps at the end of Year 7 is always hugely anticipated by children as they move through the school, and this year’s trip did not disappoint.

A Eurostar trip across the channel followed by a coach through the French countryside led to Morzine, a ski resort close to the Swiss border which is also famous for its stunning setting and mountainside lifts to beautiful walking trails.

In short, it’s the perfect destination for adventurous Terringtonians. They certainly tested our school values of Confidence, Courage of Kindness during a week packed full of activities.

Climbing mountain faces is not for the faint-hearted, and Year 7 dug deep and supported each other as they all took their turn to scale the rocks.

White water rafting was no less of a thrill for our intrepid adventurers – and they threw themselves wholeheartedly into what for some was their first experience in a canoe.

Their instructors were full of praise for every child’s discipline, dedication – and good humour when their trip ended up being wetter than they had anticipated!

Many of the children took every opportunity to practise their French in Morzine market, experiencing the rewards of hard work during their French lessons.

Everyone agreed that the Alpine walking trails above Morzine were a highlight of the trip, affording breath-taking views of the sunny mountains and valleys.

Mr Hyde, Miss I’Anson and Mr Chapman took the reins of the trip for the first time this year – and all said they were proud to have escorted such an enthusiastic, polite and well-behaved group. Well done Year 7!

Children are given a lot of time and freedom outside of the traditional classroom environment which is a real USP for this age group.
